Knysna African Arts Festival 2026
The Knysna African Arts Festival grew out of the successful AIR Festival launched in Plettenberg Bay in 2025, evolving into a vibrant celebration of African arts, culture and creativity in Knysna.
Bringing together music, dance, visual art, storytelling, heritage, performance and creative entrepreneurship, the festival includes highlights such as the AIR Dance Challenge and the Nature’s Language Visual Art Exhibition.
Rooted in African Indigenous knowledge and inspired by the spirit of the Garden Route, the festival creates opportunities for artists, learners and communities while positioning Knysna as an emerging hub for African arts and cultural innovation.
Experiencing the Vibrant Heart of African Indigenous Culture and Innovation
The AIR FESTIVAL held on 21 March 2025, coinciding with Human Rights Day, marked a significant milestone in showcasing Indigenous African culture and innovation. Attracting up to 4,000 attendees, the event featured popular activities such as the Air Dance challenge and performances by Dizu Plaatjies, drawing large crowds and participation. This memorable occasion reflected the vibrant heritage and dynamic spirit of the community, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
